I am a polish catholic girl born and raised. Easter is the holiest of holy days. It is the most important obligation and feast day. As far as faith based religious celebrations go, its more important than Christmas. And speaking from my kid memories, and my church fidget level, Easter Sunday mass and all that leads up to it was ever more intense than Christmas, that's for sure! German Catholic and same here We had mass every night of Holy Week (washing of the feet, anyone?) and stations of the cross on Good Friday

German Catholic and same here We had mass every night of Holy Week (washing of the feet, anyone?) and stations of the cross on Good Friday At school we had to do Stations of the Cross every Thursday during Lent, plus mass every day during Holy Week, plus mass every Friday all school-year long. Plus mass every Sunday with my family. It’s no wonder I stopped all of it after HS. I feel like I went enough for a lifetime. I am on vacation right now in the Balkans and we took a detour today to Medjugorji, just because I remember it being a big deal when it happened (the story is that the Virgin Mary appeared to some kids on a mountain in Bosnia in 1981). Every store was filled with Mary statues and paraphernalia and rosaries, every hotel was called something religious, every restaurant was called Blessed Virgin Miracle Food or something similar, and there were priests and nuns everywhere. My husband had never heard of it before and had no idea what was going on. “Where are we right now? How did we end up in Catholic Disneyland?? WHAT THE F IS THIS PLACE??!?” ![:lol](//storage.proboards.com/6819125/images/ootSdPWOeOobaJZc0kIU.gif)

I wouldn’t come here just for Medjugorji, but I love this part of Europe. Stunning scenery, great food, generally inexpensive, and not too many tourists.

I don't get this at all. Holidays have always been a big deal. I don't ever see that changing. Without little kids, Christmas is no big deal, either!

Seriously. I have one ten year old niece who lives two hours away, and two borrowed nieces who are 9 and 11. That's it. And this Christmas it looked like a Hallmark movie was filmed here. Though really, I have an old farmhouse and an Instagram page. What else could I do? And the borrowed nieces requested to come over to bake and decorate Christmas cookies. We were going to make a red velvet lamb cake for Easter this year but it didn't work out with custody schedules. Phooey.

I grew up with holidays like that. My kids are all grown at this point (18,19 and 21) and we are still at it.

I'm a scrooge, then. LOL. Plus, we're all trying to eat less and better, which kind of does away with my holiday baking.
However, I bought a rib roast for Sunday, and now I'm think I'll do lamb too, since youngest dd may produce her boyfriend, whom we have not yet met.

Everyone is different and it's all good. I get a lot of joy from hosting family gatherings on the farm. Perhaps I am channeling my ancestors, as my grandmother was a legendary cook and hostess.

I like low key holidays. I get stressed out with too big of gatherings.
