I think our most recent federal election campaign, last fall, was about five weeks from start to finish. So. Jealous.

The government determines how long an election period can be. Our elections used to move about a lot. The government had to call one within 5 years I think, but they could call it whenever they wanted- if the PM thought he had a good shot in year 4 he could call it then. Now they seem more on a schedule. But our leadership conventions fall as required- whenever a party leader resigns - so not usually in an election year. As long as the losing candidates won their seat they still have a roll in government.

Yeah, I think it was the 2015 election that was one of the longest campaigns - IIRC it was three months long, and we were all heartily sick and tired of it by the end 😄

Last year in Manitoba it was a bit much, because our stupid premier thought he needed an early election as well, so we had both last year. Canadians aren’t used to all that campaigning.

You mean he could actually take time out of his Costa Rican holidays to campaign for reelection? 🤣 (That’s where his vacation home is, isn’t it?)

He’s not totally terrible for the province (except health care, he’s been brutal on nurses), but he seems to be working on the idea that if he’s hardly here he can’t mess up too bad.

Is anyone else worried that Trump won't leave if he loses? I see him claiming the results are invalid and invoking some national emergency power.

I would like to think that there are enough ethical people left in justice and law enforcement and military that he would be forcibly removed, if necessary. But I am far less confident of that when I once was.

I bet he would be happy so he can spend more time bitching on Twitter and less time doing annoying stuff like being presidential
