My arm is extremely pissed off. Never felt like this after a shot before. Even a gentle brush against it is painful and moving it is awful. Still, if this is the worst of the side effects, I'm good with it and I assume it will fade over the next few days.
And best news: DH got his first dose this evening at CVS.

I thought for sure I had an orthopedic issue about 3 days after my 2nd shot. I had no real symptoms but holy hell, did my shoulder hurt. I was this >< close to calling an ortho practice when I realized it was my vaccine arm and two days later, arm was better. Crazy!

We finally decided we aren’t going to attempt a trip to the US this summer. We were hemming and hawing, but in addition to several logistical things (both kids’ US passports are expired, possibly not having health insurance, we won’t be fully vaccinated, etc), I just don’t think it’s a good idea to take an international trip this summer. My mom is going to be so upset, but we just can’t do it. I am going to change our flights to Xmas. Initially we thought we might be able to drive to France, but things seem to be getting worse there and the vaccine situation is a shambles across the EU. Instead we are going to Cornwall for a couple of weeks in June. Cornwall is lovely and has surprisingly good weather for the UK, and we booked a cottage right near the water in a fishing village. So I can’t really complain, but I would rather see my parents!

I'm just over 48 hours out from the shot and while I know there's something there, it's now just a vague soreness that gets slightly less vague if I lift my arm above my shoulder, but it's mostly a mild annoyance at this point. DH is just under 24 hours from dose 1 and says his arm feels like someone punched it, but it seems pretty mild.

Many of those other logistical issues would still be in play, but if you can stay for a month (or 3 weeks for Pf, or basically none for J&J), you could probably orchestrate things so you could have the shots booked. Just throwing that out there in case it sticks.

Just throwing that out there in case it sticks. Thank you, I did consider that, but the vaccine part is less of an issue than the passports and the current/potential travel restrictions (which then affect our insurance situation). They just passed a law that anyone leaving England for a holiday will be fined £5k per person, and there isn’t enough clarity about what will be allowed later. The messaging right now is “don’t count on travelling internationally this summer”, and if we need to change flights I’d rather do it now instead of at the last minute. The passports are a big hurdle as well, because we have to go in person to the embassy but they have been closed for almost a year and there is a huge backlog. We would need an emergency appointment, but again, we aren’t allowed to leave the country right now. It’s too much uncertainty.

Super excited! MA did great. My entire family is vaccinated

It’s so strange to read the first few pages of this thread a year later. Our entire world has changed!
My family is half vaccinated. Dh gets his second shot this Saturday, and then dd, her fiancé and I all get our second shots in two weeks.

I vaccinated my husband today. We had some last minute cancellations and doses already drawn up. We found two people from the standing list but that left one dose. Poor guy. 😂

We were at the WM pharm today picking up some prescriptions for me and one of the girls asked if we wanted the vax. I told her I’m in between shots but to go grab my hubby on the next aisle. (They know us well at the pharmacy thanks to all of my medications, lol!) They had several cancellations today and were trying to find people to take them. He was scheduled at another location for mid-April but they were able to cancel that one to open it up for someone else.

not sure what thread it's in but my friend who was thought to need a double lung transplant is slowly recovering.
He may not need one after all. 😢 He is off the respirator and being moved out of ICU
He has a long road but his progress is nothing short of a miracle.

ELATED There was a story in our local paper about a woman who gave birth in a covid coma and ended up on a lung transplant list and then after months began regaining lung function and ended up not needing it after all. I wonder what the covid treatment implications of cases like that are.

Sprock, I am so glad to read about your friend! And everyone else, it looks like all our families are making progress on getting vaccinated. Slowly breathing a sigh of relief. I am now fully vaccinated (Pfizer). My right arm hurt quite a bit and I had some body aches for a couple of days. Nothing else, thank goodness. DH gets his vaccine April 18 (two weeks from today). Like me, at the Javits center. I used to associate Javits with the Bar Exam. Now I associate it with the vaccine.

DH got his first on Thursday. He got Moderna. Friday and Saturday his arm hurt badly. I haven’t talked to him today to see if it’s better.
I had absolutely no pain after my (first Pfizer) shot. Weird how the different vaccines affect people differently.

My husband got chills, headache & body aches after his first dose of Astra Zeneca. I couldn’t even tell where it was injected. We’ll see what happens after the second dose. (Not scheduled yet)

DH got moderna (I think, the two step one) today. He's feeling fine - his arm is fine. But he is a bit chilly and achey tonight. However, he's had to stop his methotrexate for 2 weeks to get the vaccine and that could also be the problem. Ironically, when he does take his methotrexate, he usually has an evening of aches and chills anyway - a common reaction.

My dh’s sister and her family all have COVID. They live in BC, which has pretty high numbers right now. BIL got sent home from the ER, but they kept SIL, who is in hospital with inflammation in her lungs(?). She’s in her 60s and has never been particularly healthy, so this might not go well. She’s the sister Dh is least close to (I’ve only met her 3 or 4 times, one of those our wedding), so he’s hearing about this from his mom. They have 3 grown kids who have families of their own, but we don’t know how many are sick. Dh said he didn’t think to ask. Like I said - not close. It’s still pretty weird, to me, this whole COVID thing.

My husband and I had a conversation today about trips we might take next year. Ever since all of this started, I haven’t wanted to even think about a vacation (beyond visiting family) because it was too depressing during lockdown and all of the uncertainty. And because I had to postpone my trip I was supposed to take with my daughter, which was a big bummer (currently rescheduled for 2023). But it was actually fun and exciting to think about vacations again! Hopefully we can take them again soon.
