Just finished Labor Day, which was also made into a movie a few years ago, apparently. I liked it; something tells me the book will be way better than the movie.
Now I'm reading Claire of the Sea Light by Edwidge Danticat and so far enjoying it. I read a few of his books a long time ago when we still lived in NW AR, so 15 years ago or so, and I like him a lot.
I'm working on baby-steps to overcome agoraphobia and my kid suggested maybe a library book club as a thing to strive for. This book was the selection of the monthly noon-time meeting at the branch I like, so I figured I can start by reading the book.

I just finished The Lost. It was a bit long winded and could have used some editing. But the main story was pretty amazing. About a family who had "lost" 6 members in the holocaust when a grandson decided to research what happened to them. Lots of dead ends, history and dealing with the people recalling the past on all sides of the events this family went through

February seems a good month for reading romances so I am - specifically Penny Reid romances . I'm working my way through two of her series as they come available in the library. They're not the best written books ever - but lately I've been in a needing something light and not too thinky/sad to read .

Finished We Have Always Lived in the Castle...creepy, but at the midway point I had a good handle on what had happened on the fateful night the Blackrock family experienced their tragedy, and what would happen.
Headed to the library this afternoon to pick out some new books. Hopefully the new Louise Erdrich will still be available!

I picked up two books at the library yesterday and started reading My Life With Bob: Flawed Heroine Keeps Book of Books, Plot Ensues by Pamela Paul. This is an autobiography written by a woman who started keeping track of every book she read starting when she was a junior in high school. This one will be a quick read, I am already about a third of the way through it.
After that: Future Home of the Living God by Louise Erdrich.

I read this in HS, I may to reread it. Currently re-reading Small Great Things (or is it Great Small Things? ) for book club. Next up Fortunes Children about how the Vanderbilts pissed away their money

My book club just read Hunted by Megan Spooner. It's a Beauty and the Beast with Russian folklore and Beauty is a fierce hunter, herself. It's amazing. I don't typically dig YA lit but this was fantastic and I want to hand it to every teen girl I know.

ETA: And the library had it in their digital collection, so win-win-win!

Finished My Life with Bob. I walked away enjoying much of the book (mostly the parts about what she was reading and why that book was important to her) but also finding the author really unlikeable - she seemed like she would be a real pill to deal with IRL.

I am on vacation so am reading like crazy. I finally read the Dark Materials trilogy, which I loved. I also read The Power by Naomi Alderman, which I picked up on a whim at the bookstore. It’s a sci-fi novel about women suddenly having immense physical power and the subsequent changes in societal dynamics. Very thought-provoking - I highly recommend.

I don't typically dig YA lit but this was fantastic and I want to hand it to every teen girl I know. My TBR list can not catch a break . I finished A History of Canada in Ten Maps by Adam Shoalts and oh.em.gee I loved it so much. If you like Canadian history and/or exploration I highly recommend it. I moved onto the Dear Fahrenheit 451 by Annie Spence which is a librarians break up letter to books she's weeding from the library. It's very charming - super fast and entertaining. So far I've only read one of the books that she broke up with but that hasn't hampered my enjoyment. On the fiction side I've been catching up on the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. It's a paranormal/urban fantasy series that I enjoy. I've read 10 books in the series and it surprisingly doesn't get old. I started Before She Ignites by Jodi Meadows today which was a book received in a subscription box last fall - since I paid for it I figured I should read it
