So what was your 2018 reading year like? Did you make a goal? Did you meet it? What was your best read? Worst read? Anything bookish you want to talk about - do it here

So, I’m not going to hit my overall number goal, but that’s fine. If I count Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist as a classic, I’ve accomplished my goal of 6 classics. I need to push through the current non-fiction I’m reading in order to finish 5 of the goal of 6 I set for non-fiction.
Do you re-read books (I do), & if so, do you count it towards whatever goal/total you set? I typically don’t count re-reads, unless it’s been a long time since I read it, like, I read Animal Farm in high school, but reading it for book club this year definitely counts towards my goals.
I need to think about what I want to do in 2019.

I've read 64 books in 2018; my goal was 40, so, hooray!
I do include rereads, but that's only 10 of my books this year (Harry Potter and Hunger Games series).
I did a challenge to read 24 books that were on my TBR list before the start of 2018, and I succeeded at that (25, actually). I'm planning to do the same challenge for 2019. (It's Mount TBR on Goodreads, if anyone is interested - there are several levels to choose from, but 24 is the one I picked.)
My most delightful new read this year was The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making.

I didn’t make a reading goal but I know I have read 30+ books since September. One of my work goals this school year is to create more of a reading culture at my school, so I am trying to read as much as possible myself so I can make good recommendations for my students. Most of my reading is YA or middle-grade (though I read other stuff during the summer). Best book was probably The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, followed by Refugee by Alan Gratz. I read some terrible kid/teen books that featured video games in the plots. I don’t think I will do a number goal but I am keeping track for this school year. I have a bulletin board behind my desk that says “What I Am Reading” and I stick pictures of the covers of everything I read so the kids can see. I’ll see where I am in June. My TBR pile is ridiculous at the moment. I am hoping to get through at least 12-15 of them before school starts again on 8 Jan.

Oh, I forgot to say, 40 books will be my overall goal for 2019 as well. It's a number that's generally achievable for me and gives me the flexibility to choose a few longer books if I want to without feeling like I won't be able to meet the goal.

Okay, just finished #5 non-fiction. I think I will keep the goals of 6 classics & 6 non-fiction. Don’t know yet if I’ll set an overall number, but I will definitely continue to keep track of what I read.

Since November 2017 (when I started my list) I've read 53 books. I didn't have a goal and a few were re-reads. I read a few stinkers, but most were pretty good. A few of my favorites were:
Lincoln in the Bardo Game of Queens (nonfiction) Anna Karenina The Corfu Trilogy Spoonbenders The Corporation (nonfiction) The Nix Bad Blood (nonfiction)

I need to think about what I want to do in 2019. I absolutely count re-reads. I didn't used to re-read books but I started again a few years ago. Usually in the summer I'll re-read a favourite series but this year I re-read The Stand for the eleventyth time . But I read it in October as one does with Stephen King I've read 64 books in 2018; my goal was 40, so, hooray! I do include rereads, but that's only 10 of my books this year (Harry Potter and Hunger Games series). My most delightful new read this year was The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making. That is a great challenge! I have over 200 unread books on my e-reader and I keep adding new ones
I usually set a number goal that's easy for me - I don't really need to set a goal because I will read regardless but I like the little progress bar on Goodreads
I discovered some new favourite authors in 2018 and plowed through their back catalogue (Sarah J Maas and Leigh Bardugo). Instagram has been very bad or very good for my TBR depending on how you look at it
I'm currently sitting at 105 for the year (which is head and shoulders above previous years so I'm not sure what's going on there but it's definitely an anomaly)
I try to balance my fiction vs non-fiction but this year less than 1/4 of my books were non-fiction It's usually closer to 30%).
I'm going to try to do this challenge this year.

I fell off the reading wagon this year and did not meet my goal. But I recently read Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng and really enjoyed it. Now I’m reading Belong to Me by Maria de los Santos and I read another book by her, Love Walked In. I definitely want to get over to my library soon and check out their new book section.

Suuuuuch a reading slump. I read a fair amount (probably about 40 books), but it was nearly all romance, some of it quite awful. A few trash books is fine, but my reading was the equivalent of all fast food, every meal.
I'm looking for some sort of challenge to direct myself out of this slump. Maybe I'll use WOG's, but there are some in there I don't like for various reasons (mostly the "cover"-based ones, as that's hard to search on Amazon, although soon I'll have access to a nice library system!). Anyone have someone similar, and or in a format I could edit?

I too had a slump. Read 36 books, but so much trashy romance! Lol Honestly a reflection of a stressful year at home and work.

This year I didn’t read nearly as much as I have in the past. Going full time at work in March didn’t help. It means I have less time, plus with my job being quite physical I tend to veg on the couch with the tv and my laptop too much during my days off. I’m working on changing that habit this coming year.
Plus Dh and I are still figuring out our new normal without Holly. She took a lot of our spare time, so now we have more but so far we’ve been using it to sit around. I’d like to use some of that time for reading.

So, I ended up reading 60 books in 2018, short of the number goal I set, & managed to squeak in to meet my nonfiction goal.
I think my favorites were A Man Called Ove, & reading & listening to Hamlet, Prince of Denmark & The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyl & Mr. Hyde, both performed by Richard Armitage.
WOG, those challenge lists are interesting! Thanks for posting!
