I finished The Couple Next Door last night. I liked the book overall, but the only sympathetic character in the entire book was the baby!
Starting Behind Closed Doors by BA Paris tonight.

That's what I didn't like about Gone Girl and Girl on the Train - none of the characters were particularly likeable
I finished Mark Forsyth's Elements of Eloquence yesterday - highly recommend it to all word nerds. It's about the figures of rhetoric and it sounds dry but it was truly fascinating. He quotes Snoop Dogg as easily as he quotes Shakespeare . He's not a pedant at all. I was about a chapter in when I decided that ds would love it so I ordered it for him for Christmas - I think he read it in 3 days over the break

I’m reading Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows by Balli Kaur Jaswal. It suddenly appeared in my account at the library. I don’t remember ordering it, but I’m guessing I saw it recommended somewhere? Maybe even in last year’s thread here. Anyway, so far it’s okay. The writing isn’t super strong, but the characters are okay.

I picked up a used copy of The Desire Map that Jen mentioned. Started doing the exercises yesterday afternoon. Stopped when my answer to "Ecstasy lives..." was "in my pants".

I finished Behind Closed Doors during my lunch break. I thought it was “good-but,” meaning I liked it but I can’t really say what I didn’t like about it. Maybe I needed an epilogue to wrap it up in a pretty bow for me.
Next up is Year One by Nora Roberts

Finished Herodotus yesterday, read Alexander Pope's The Rape of the Lock today. It's so short I shouldn't count it as a book, but I have it as an ebook and Goodreads has it, so I'm counting it. Next up is The People of Sparks, a pre-read for the girls.

It looks like my next class is requiring us to read a book a week! All books about management and leadership. Meh.

I finished Year One last night. I felt like I had already read it since it was basically a knockoff of The Stand with some magic thrown in.
I’m not sure what I want to start next.

I’m doing a lot of work reading lately, too. Academic papers on the minutiae of cat behaviour mostly. I picked up a new book from the library yesterday. I chose it because of the reading challenge WOG posted. One of the items was “a book that has a main character with your first name”. Easy for me, but it got me thinking that there is no way that there is a published book out there with my DH’s name featured. Well whatayaknow? The reviews weren’t too bad, and our library even had it available. So I’m reading “The Last Good Man” by A.J. Kazinski. It’s a thriller, set mostly in Denmark. Not bad so far.

My mother sent me Michelle Obama's book, so now I have 4 books to read before January 26.

Next is Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney.

I just finished The Book of Books which was a fantastic way to add to my TBR list! Starting with The Picture of Dorian Gray. The list has everything from old books (Pilgrims Progress anyone?) to very modern (like, last year). A fantastic way to get inspired to read more!

Next up is The People of Sparks, a pre-read for the girls. Is that one of the City of Ember books? I loved that book. FYI don't watch the movie
I finished Pride and Prejudice and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now I'm reading Jane Eyre which I'm finding easier to read from a technical point of view, but it's not quite as fun as P&P so it's taking me longer - although I am enjoying it.
I'm also reading Endurance by Scott Kelly about his year on the ISS - so far it's enthralling. If my bus stop after work wasn't the last one I would have read right past it

I finished the series and liked books 1, 2, and 4, but 3 (the "prequel") was not very good at all. I love Jane Eyre but suffered my way through Pride and Prejudice. Currently reading John Owen's The Mortification of Sin in Believers. It's very convicting.

Read Elevation by Stephan King over the weekwnd. Little novella. Reminiscent of his Bachman book era.
