I am looking for a simple bread recipe that is difficult to screw up. Something that takes only simple, basic ingredients, please. We will be eating it with soup and perhaps using it to make sandwiches, so I want a simple, bread-flavored bread. But "easy" is key. I've googled and found a zillion of them so something recommended by a real person would be great.
Like the rest of the world, I'm gong to try baking bread and I afeared.

Okay - do you have one of those kitchenaid mixers with a dough hook?

Have you tried no-knead bread?

Have you tried no-knead bread? This. My brother recently made bread for the first time and did no-knead.

I find it interesting how many people are getting into breadmaking at this time. I have 3 on fb who are doing this too!
I have a great sourdough starter going now - I've kept it alive since last summer. I has a great smell and taste in bread. I recently managed to barter some homemade bread with a farmer friend for some asparagus and rhubarb as soon as it comes up. A win-win.

I have a multi-grain recipe that I make but it’s not simple. I use my bread machine to knead it but I bake it in my oven.

I use this one frequently. Takes a little planning but makes really good bread. It's more of a boule style bread.

Okay - do you have one of those kitchenaid mixers with a dough hook? No. I have my hands. I do *not* have a well stocked or equipped kitchen.

Thank you! Especially for the specific recipes. I think I don't mind kneading, but that my just be because I've never done it, so maybe it's worse or more difficult than I imagine? This will likely be my project for Wednesday, DH's news work away from home day.

The recipe I posted is for kneading by hand. I made it last weekend for the first time. It was really easy - I know I posted this picture already but just so you can see it:

It's not that kneading is hard - you do need to have strong hands and arms to do a good job of it. (I don't have this - hence I use a breadmaker to either make the dough or my kitchenaid mixer). But the no knead recipes should be a good starter type.

This will likely be my project for Wednesday, DH's news work away from home day. Don’t be intimidated by the prospect of kneading. Bread dough feels a bit like playdough, so just imagine working playdough against the counter until it becomes soft and malleable. I just keep sprinkling a little flour on the counter and kneading the dough against it until the dough doesn’t stick to my hands any more - one of my cookbooks says to knead it until it feels like your earlobe!

Today was going to be my bread-making day. I kind of chickened out. Dh goes into work again on Tuesday so maybe I will try again then. (I think I want him not to be home so it is a total failure, he'll never even know it happened. )
