French researchers are planning to give nicotine patches to coronavirus patients and those likely to come in contact with them. They are doing this because research has shown that the proportion of smokers among virus patients if much lower than that of the population at large. They are trying to find out if nicotine will prevent or lessen the effects of the virus. Perhaps this is something you should try if you have the virus or are likely to be exposed to it. There is no assurance this will help but it can’t do any harm. And you definitely shouldn’t take up smoking. The hazards of smoking are much worse than the virus. disrn.com/news/french-researchers-to-give-nicotine-patches-to-frontline-workers-patients-after-study-shows-nicotine-may-help-prevent-coronavirus

It seems there are new recommendations every other day.
Getting addicted to nicotine would definitely be a last resort.
