And mostly that's because I'm perimenopausal and my period has been coming for 5-7 days every 2-3 months or so, mostly fairly light, usually one or two heavy days, but much more reasonable than it was last year.
UNTIL LAST WEEK! (not for the queasy)
I had spotting starting on Sunday the 19th, and it continued through Wednesday, then I started gushing in the middle of the night, and it's been heavy ever since - 5 days of very heavy bleeding and huge chunks. When I say huge, I mean like half a can of cranberry sauce every hour or so. Today it started to feel really crampy and painful. I called the doctor and I have to get a blood workup to see where my iron is. I am anticipating it won't be great although it won't be as bad as just before I had to have my transfusion. I can see the dark circles under my eyes and I've been super tired and really cold.
Anyway, I'm going to eat some dairy today since I'm anticipating I'll have to reduce my consumption to improve my iron absorption, and I'll probably be back on progesterone again which led to much more bleeding. I guess we'll see. My new ob/gyn is SO MUCH BETTER than my previous one, so I feel like I'm in good hands (thanks Jen!)

Gah! I am glad you have a physician you trust, though.

Ugh. That sounds similar to what I went through with the clotting but mine never completely stopped. I have zero regrets getting my hysterectomy. TMI, but sex is better in that it's not painful as I no longer have a cervix to get bumped. That would sometimes be painful.

Things are slowing down today - I only had to get up once in the middle of the night. I was having heart palpitations all day yesterday, which is a symptom of low iron, but things should go back to normal once I stop bleeding, which now seems like something that might happen on its own.

I know I keep harping on a hysterectomy, but you are a tough cookie to be dealing with this for such an extended time. Hugs

I had my ob/gyn appt yesterday and got a Mirena IUD, which should prevent the build up of tissue on the uterine wall. So far, so good - she said I might have cramping and spotting for 24 hours but I'm having neither.

Regardless of whether you eventually get to a hysterectomy or not, I am so glad you have a doctor who is addressing it rather than just shrugging it off.
IUDs are amazing. I have one now and love it dearly, and insertion was no big thing. I almost feel evangelical about it.

The saga continues! I got the Mirena inserted a month ago (no pain or issues with that), had a week of no bleeding, and then I've been bleeding ever since. It's lighter than my regular period, which is great but I am just so over blood coming out of my vagina. It's been 41 years of bleeding. I got my period back within a month of giving birth both times, even though I was breastfeeding, so didn't even get a break then. That seems like plenty. I have a check-in with my ob/gyn tomorrow and I'm going to talk to her about it.

I’m sorry you’re still dealing with this. Hopefully next month will be better. When I was going thru this I had my hyst, the only regret I had was they left my tubes and ovaries
