As an adult, buffets have never held much appeal for me, with the exception of a really good, well-managed breakfast buffet.
Do you think the days of the 'Trough and Chew' style place/restaurant will be over once the world reopens? What would it take to get you back into a Buffet?

If buffets survive they will probably be a lot different from what they are now. Perhaps individual servings will be placed in sealed containers. This would make them safer but would also raise the cost. Buffets might become so expensive that no one would be interested in them.

Buffets grossed me out long before coronavirus. I have no idea how they could manage them to make them sanitary. People can be disgusting.

I think they’re done... but Buffets are something that I avoided before all this anyway. I always thought the idea was kinda yuck.

The only buffets I liked were higher end restaurants that had Mother's Day buffets, which only happened on Mother's Day. LOL That being said, I did eat at casino buffets and the odd Chinese buffet occasionally. I tamped down my gross-out factor. I doubt buffets will be around for quite some time.

I used to like them when I was younger but then I started seeing parents not supervising their children when they got food.....

I used to like them when I was younger but then I started seeing parents not supervising their children when they got food..... Yeah, places like Golden Corral have been off my eating list for a long time after seeing the way kids (and even some of the grown ups) behave around the food there. I will probably still eat buffet food from places like Rodizio and a Chinese restaurant I go to near my school on professional development days just because I rarely see children in those places and the other customers tend to be sanitary in how they serve themselves. I will implement things such as disinfecting my hands frequently during my visit though.

I adore the idea of a huge salad bar with a gajillion choices. If only people weren't part of the equation.

We've avoided buffets for quite a while now. I do enjoy the chinese food buffets (especially the ones with japanese food as well) but with the typical amount of food we eat at a buffet, it really isn't worth the money. DH eats about as much as an 8 year old. I hadn't really thought about the yuck factor or kids running around though.

I work in event catering/food services. Buffet service is what I do ( or did!) so I am insanely picky about buffets.
I don't even consider a salad bar until I have looked it over ( and even then, I once witnessed a customer LICK a serving spoon and put it back, at a local kinda fancy steak house once so...) It would be me losing my mind to ever set foot in a golden corral, for example.
I am not seeing unsupervised buffets, and the self use of utensils among other things. I see a lot of line service which I would rather see usually anyway!

I love a nice breakfast buffet.
But it's nothing i indulge in very often. I can't imagine they will be back in business any time soon.

If there is a server behind them, they are okay

I'm bummed about Sweet Tomatoes/Souplantation. The ones here closed several years ago but we'd always go for lunch at least once when I'd visit my friend in AZ or my cousin in CA where they still had them. The ranch dressing was to die for, we used to joke they must put crack or something in it.
I wonder if the buffets that stay around will change to where there are servers and you tell them what you want and they put it on a plate for you. Cafeteria style basically but you can keep going back for more.

Buffets aren't much of a big deal around here, they're hard to find except for special occasions like Mother's Day. We do a Chinese once maybe once a year, but I haven't seen a good salad bar in years. I can see them either moving to table service or using attendants to serve. Continental breakfasts will probably go to individually wrapped items, if they don't disappear.
