Do small dollar donors--let's say anyone contributing under $5000 total, even--really make a difference? I've got some money to donate (not $5000 lol), but throwing it at Biden feels like throwing it into the void. I'm not sure an extra billboard or TV ad or appearance is going to move the needle for anyone in this most extraordinary presidential campaign. I think that if anyone was going to not vote for Trump, they would already be doing so. Another reminder about who he is and what he stands for seems pointless. To people still supporting him, those are features not bugs.
I can (and have) donated in some key senate races (for Kelly in Az, and against McConnell). But the presidential race feels the most dire, yet also the least influence-able, if that makes sense. So I wonder if helping an organization the helps get voters to the polls in urban areas of swing states, for example, might not be more useful.
Thoughts? Suggestions on other places to donate?
ETA: I'm looking to donate to political causes still, but wondering what will be most effective. Ideally, it would be effective in getting Trump out, but I'm not convinced there's a way that money will do that.

I think that amount might make a difference in a local race, not national... I always make donations to the Denver Dumb Friends League animal shelter when I have extra to give. They take such good care of so many animals and get them adopted into good homes. Plus they let you come pet all the cats if you want to 😊

I wouldn't donate to a political campaign. A local women's or animal shelter would benefit more.

Small donations add up for national candidates, too.

Small donations add up for national candidates, too. Sorry, to be clear, I'm still looking to keep this money in the political sphere. Maur, I know they add up. It's just that they will generally be spent on post cards or TV ads or billboards, or similar. And I question whether those will have any influence in this odd election where things that in the past would have sunk a candidate are the things that are actually generating support. Racism and misogyny garner him more support. So Ad dollars spent remind everyone he's a racist and a misogynist seem entirely futile. Everyone knows that and their votes have settled accordingly already. An add screaming about how racist he is is just as much an add to generate supporters among his base as it is to generate enthusiasm for those voting against him. So what's the point? I'd happily send $100 to Biden if I thought it might make a difference. And again, it's not so much that my dollar amount is too small to matter. it's that short of Super PAC, lobbyest kind of money, I don't know that any of the things on which political money is typically spent are going to make a difference in swaying voters.

I've been donating to close senate races. If the turtle keeps the Senate we are screwed no matter who becomes president.
I also donated to Biden/Harris after the debate just to be counted so the gop can see how many, many people want them out.

I think it helps guarantee the crazy amount of money politicians spend to get elected but I did it anyways.
Not even sure it helps to be honest, I think it just supports an old and dying political strategy of bombarding people with ads thinking it makes a difference. Manipulation using social media seems to be more effective

I would love to see a shortened campaign season and limits on collecting and spending.
We have public financing for campaigns in CT and it has really opened up the state legislature so it's not just just lawyers, realtors, and CEOs. My friend Lisa is running for state senate, she's a teacher and I think she will be brilliant.
