I actually made sourdough pancakes this morning--I never really stopped that little trend.
Delta's rising, hospitals are full, and school is about to start.
What do you think we're in for?

I am hoping schools in our area will reverse themselves and require masks until elementary students can be vaccinated. If They don't, I'm afraid we are going to have a miserable fall. I really understand people just wanting to be done with it. I am right there with them. I just don't think we get done with it by pretending it has already disappeared, and it feels like that is what they are trying to do.
In a district near me, people are trying to recall the school board members who supported masks last year, as well as selective closures when cases spiked. It blows my mind that parents would host massive parties involving most of the sophomore classes at the public school and a nearby by private school and then have the audacity to complain when the two schools have to switch to remote education for two weeks to prevent a widespread outbreak. There are some super entitled parents and students in that district and you really could not pay me enough to teach there. They have a board meeting tomorrow to finalize the fall plans and the crowd got so out of control at the last such meeting the police had to be called. Darwin Awards should be going out soon.

Gah! The entitlement of people is just mind blowing. They want everything to be normal but don't want to sacrifice ANYTHING in order to get there. They want to travel freely but also want to crack down on and blame immigrants (who, let's face it, are native to this continent and were here first). They want the entire world to revolve around them so they don't have to face the slightest inconvenience.

I’m afraid it’s going to get much worse very quickly esp in Texas
Dh goes back to teach tomorrow and classes start next week. We’re both thinking that will last a week or 2 before they go back online.
I’m working one day a week as an LC. I haven’t been to work since 7/29. First day back is Wednesday. I’m sure we will be back to a full capacity soon if we aren’t already.
I recently applied for another position that is all prenatal class organizing and mch stats with no direct patient care. They’ve contacted me. We’ll how it goes when I interview

I wish K-12 schools would do the same even just 'til Christmas when kids will have had a chance to get vaccinated.

Oklahoma teacher here. There was a law passed in May, I believe, forbidding local school districts from creating mask mandates UNLESS the governor (who is a real piece of shit in my opinion, but got elected because he had an R next to his name, and wasn't a politician but a business man, sound familiar?) declares a state of emergency in that county or district. Some of the bigger districts, OKC and Tulsa are mandating it anyway, and I think Tulsa is suing the state about it.

I am worried about all my friends with children too young to be vaccinated, most of whom are teachers. At least if I get exposed at school, everyone in my household is vaccinated. I really do feel for my colleagues who have young children as they are going to be crammed into rooms full of students with masks optional and then have to go home to small children.

I didn't make sourdough the first time around. Is all of this my fault? Sorry guys!
But seriously: I don't foresee any lockdowns around here. Our school district tried saying kids up to 8th grade would be required to mask unless they had an exemption from a doctor saying the child couldn't mask due to physical or mental health. I think it was the very next day that they changed it to "you're required to mask, unless your parent opts you out." In other words, by the time school started last Wednesday, there was effectively no mask requirement. And FSU, where DH works - they sent out a strongly worded letter to all students, faculty, & staff, talking about how everyone is expected to mask and everyone is expected to have at least one vaccine dose by the time the fall semester starts (8/23). But it's "expected," not "required."
On the other hand, we were eating outdoors at a restaurant last night and heard a guy at a nearby table talking about how he finally got the vaccine. His reasoning? He's going to be out of town, going through some other states, and doesn't want to be turned away if some restaurant says you can't enter without being vaccinated. Whatever the reason, he got it.
And an acquaintance who has been very vaccine hesitant? She got her first dose a day or so ago. She pointed out in her FB post about it that she still thinks everyone should make the decision they think best for them. But she got it.
And there are others I've also heard about who are getting it now. So I do think Delta is making some people move from "on the fence" to vaccinated. And I suspect that as things get worse (which they will), more people will make that choice.
Meanwhile, my covid-related anxiety is up again. Maybe I should look into the sourdough thing.

I don't know what to think. I dropped my kid off at college yesterday. Hoping he can stay in person, but we are in Missouri so I'm not that hopeful. We are all vaccinated so I hope if/when we get Covid it's mild. I am still worried about my stupid relatives who won't get vaccinated.

Even if there was a mask mandate our school/town will do exactly what it did last time. Nothing. Wear a mask if you want, don't wear one if you don't want too. See you at the football game or wrestling match later. Go Raiders!

See you at the football game or wrestling match later. Go Raiders! At my son's high school last year, they were not allowed to have a pi orchestra for the musical even if it was spread out throughout the auditorium because it was not safe due to covid. The day they announced that, they also announced one of the guys from the wrestling team would be wrestling in the state tournament. Singing and dancing together was okay. Rolling around on the floor with zero millimeters of separation was okay. It was just sitting 10 feet apart wearing masks and blowing on instruments with bell covers which was unsafe. So inconsistent.
