I'm not really in favor of punishment, in general, but I do believe in consequences. I think our country is headed down a dangerous path when someone is being CELEBRATED for beating a murder charge.

I won't pretend to understand American gun culture, but this case seems extreme even in that framework.
I spend some time in a forum that is fairly right slanted. There are discussions that are not political, and I post in those occasionally. Any time I have posted in a political discussion I get deleted. Non-US opinions not welcome (said flat-out in ways like "I don't care what shit hole country you're from, this is the US").
Anyway, there are threads there taking polls about how happy they are that Rittenhouse killed people, because it turned out later who the people were (like "one was a communist!!!", one was convicted sex offender). Rittenhouse had no idea who they were when he shot them, but these people on the forum are saying he did society a favour. That is so messed up.

I'm trying to look at it objectively, and what I find is that the laws around guns are so different in the U.S., as well as between states, that I lack the information to really understand it. There are a lot of people posting on Quora who explain quite clearly why he was acquitted. I think that who he killed really has no relevance. That shouldn't come into play at all.
