And there is nothing we can do about it.

I'm trying not to focus too much on it. But for some reason I got angry when I saw a whole bunch of "pray for the Ukraine" posts on Facebook. It just brought up that whole, hollow "thoughts and prayers" stuff that's been going around for years now.

But there are situations when praying is all that you can do and this seems to be one of them. Since that is the case we should pray about the situation. I have a post in my blog about what to do in cases like this. clydeherrin.wordpress.com/2019/10/02/dont-do-something-just-stand-there/

Meanwhile, PornHub blocked Russian access to its site. Whenever someone in Russia attempts to log on, the only thing they see is the Flag of Ukraine.
Far more meaningful than Thoughts and Prayers.

The thing is, there is nothing wrong with praying. I have been praying for Ukraine, myself. But far too often the impulse to pray stops there, and people don't go further to do something concrete. Can I donate money? Can I make sure I don't share Russian misinformation? Can I not buy things from Russia?
I have seen posts from bars and retails stores who will no longer buy Russian vodka. Elon Musk moved his satellites so people in Ukraine can get Starlink. Praying is great, but it is not a stopping point.

The Liquor Control Board of Ontario, which is one of the biggest buyers of alcohol in the world, has removed Russian alcohol from their shelves. So has the liquor board in Manitoba, and all four Atlantic provinces.
Canada has the largest Ukrainian population in the world after Russia - there are over one million Ukrainians and people of Ukrainian descent here.
Edit: I should have said βthe largest Ukrainian population in the world outside Ukraine (obviously) and Russia.β

Zelensky is winning the hearts of people all over the world. He seems pretty straightforward and brave.

Trying to avoid all the discussions on it, everywhere. 1648 and all that.
