Had a cognitive assessment yesterday afternoon - it was interesting, and I am slightly more concerned now than I was beforehand.
There were a bunch of tests -
1. A computer test where I was directed to hit the space bar every time a letter came up, unless the letter was X. The letters came up at different speeds and I definitely hit the spacebar for 5 Xs.
2. The dr listed about 20 words and asked me to remember and say back as many as I could. Did not do great, but she came back to it 3 more times and I was able to list more words each time. (She didn’t repeat the list)
3. She told me a story and asked me to repeat the story chronologically as best I could. Got key points of the story but probably missed some specific details. Then we did a second story
4. I was shown a page with several drawings on it and the she put it away and I had to recreate the drawings as best I could. Only got 2 of them. We repeated this one 4 times throughout the 4 hour testing window and I did better every time.
5. She listed a series of numbers and asked me to read them back to her. I think I did okay.
6. She did a second list of numbers and had to put them in chronological order - I did better with this one.
7. She asked me to read a list of words aloud - killed it.
8. She showed me a bunch of pictures and asked me to identify what they were - only got one wrong (protractor - not a math person)
9. she asked me to list as many words starting with a specific letter - we did 3 different letters. I think I did okay.
10. Had to identify the missing picture of several different patterns
11. Recreate patterns with blocks - had some successes and some struggles
12. She asked me about the stories she read earlier and I had to answer yes or no to questions about the stories
13. She asked me about the list of words and I had to identify whether the words we said were on the list or not.
14. Had to recreate a complicated drawing
I'm surprised I was able to remember all the tests when I couldn't remember things I just heard - I think I definitely have some issues with remembering oral instructions - one of the accommodations I asked for at work was to receive written instructions for new tasks (recommended for people with ADHD.
In other news, had a really successful walk with the dogs at a nearby park. There was some barking, but Bubba made a friend - some of the town staff was doing work on an electric box, outside of the baseball field - I usually take them there when we go to this park because they can run around free, and it's a good place to do training - and Bubba ran over to them (they were outside the field) and barked, and one of them gave him a treat, and I saw his body language immediately relax. We were there for over an hour and he settled down the longer we were there.
