I started and finished Smile by Roddy Doyle yesterday (it's a pretty thin tome). It was kind of unsatisfying, but well written, kind of about the abuse of children by the Catholic Church in Ireland and the toll it takes on those who were victimized.

I finished Sometimes I Lie. I liked it; lots of twists.
Next up is Last Breath by Karin Slaughter. It will be a quick read for me today while I’m home.

I adored Jane Eyre. I feel like I've missed something all my life by not having both P&P and Jane Eyre as part of it ♥. I'm still reading Endurance and it's still fascinating. I'm also reading Pride by Ibi Zoboi which is a modern retelling of P&P (I got it in a subscription box and figured I should read the original first)

I finished Last Breath last Wednesday. I haven’t started anything else yet. I do have The Woman in Cabin 10 sitting next to me, so I’ll probably start that today.

I'm reading The Count of Monte Cristo (not sure how I missed that!) and listening to A Separate Peace (which I've read many times). Both inspired by the Book of Books!

I finished both Endurance - fabulous and Pride - so so. King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo came out yesterday and I'm starting it today. I'm a little excited about this book - I ordered 3 different special boxes to celebrate it's release

I just started Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. Very good so far. I have a book called Shibumi to read for my book club. Not looking forward to that. It sounds like a James Bond type of story with an Asian James Bond. It's not really my thing, but I may be surprised.

My mother sent me Michelle Obama's book, but it's on the back burner while I'm taking Economic Analysis for Public Policy.

I started Erebus by Michael Palin the other day. The Michael Palin of Monty Python fame is also a former President of the Royal Geographic Society and he wrote a book last fall about Erebus which was one of the ships that went missing with the Franklin Expedition. Prior to it's unfortunate end the Erebus also sailed to the Antarctic. So it's an interesting look at polar exploration but it's about the ship and not so much the people.

I finished King of Scars and it was everything I've come to expect from Leigh Bardugo. She is just so fabulous. I'm not reading Girls of Paper & Fire by Natasha Ngan which is a YA fantasy in an Asian setting. Lei is a "Paper Caste" which is the lowest caste in this world - she has no animal features and is 100% human. The King is a Moon Caste - more animal than human. Each year 8 Paper Girls are chose to be his concubines for the year. Lei is chosen but she's not interested and she kind of fights back. So far it's good.

I finished The Woman in Cabin 10 (just meh) and started and finished Stranger in the House. I liked that well enough. Yesterday, I started Where the Crawdads Sing. Loving it so far.

I finished Girls of Paper and Fire - it was technically a well written story. The plot was intriguing, the world building was good - but there was something flat about it. Maybe it was the character wasn't developed enough to the point where I really cared?? I'm not sure. It's the first book I've ever read that had a trigger warning at the front - which was more of a spoiler than anything. I kept waiting for the thing to happen . I think if you have issues with sexual assault/violence than fantasy is probably not the right genre for you. I understand being respectful of people's experiences, etc - but fantasy is not a genre for people who can't handle sexual violence.

I'm finishing up The Forgotten Hours by Katherine Schuman- a kindle monthly freebie. I need to start reading The Crawdads book for my February book club selection, and I just got a free advanced reading copy of something called Cape May, by an author called Chip Cheek.. Every so often I fill out one of those get a free book on Facebook, and get one of these, sometimes good sometimes not. Supposedly I am supposed to be sharing my excitement and hash-tagging all over social media about it, but I never do, and the last one I got was terrible! Lol This one at least came with a cute little metal bookmark though!
I have a bunch of books on my kindle I really need to get through before I purchase more books-Real or kindle!

I finished Erebus - loved it - probably not for beginners to the Franklin Expedition but still great. I also read Amber & Dusk which is a YA fantasy - lots of court intrigue. I actually quite liked it - some issues (the author is overly found of similes), none of the characters are quite what they seem - even the main character isn't always likeable but I will definitely read on in the series. Now I'm reading an ARC of The Girl He Used to Know by Tracey Garvis Graves which I've just started so I can't really say what it's about I'm also reading The Woo Woo by Lindsay Wong which is one of the Canada Reads books this year. It's Wong's memoir about growing up in her incredibly dysfunctional family as a first generation Canadian in a Chinese immigrant family - her mother clearly suffers from major untreated mental health issues. It's kind of hard to read TBH

Read The Starfish and the Spider for school. Meh. One idea expressed over and over and over again for 200+ pages.
Will be starting Drive by Daniel Pink today, also for school.
