New year, new thread.
Any goals/challenges/lists?
My January book club reads are Heartless by Marissa Meyer, which I’m really enjoying listening to, & The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins, which I haven’t started yet. I think I bumped my Goodreads challenge to 75, & I’m still setting my goal of at least 6 non-fiction & 6 classics.

I am reading Liberace. It's by one of his former partners. Did you know he was gay??? Imagine that!
But I knew nothing really about the man, because he was too old when I was growing up and then died. Very interesting story though, and I looked up an old clip on youtube to see if he really was that charismatic. And he was! He really knew how to play to a house and who to play to. Just an interesting person, who unfortunately due to the stigma around AIDS and being gay in his time, received no proper send-off or burial. It truly shows how awful it must be to have to live a lie your entire life. Or even to live an open secret as he did.

I'm in the middle of Invisible Women, which is interesting. Nothing too earth shattering, though.
And also The Cure for Everything by Timothy Caulfield. I love his writing (he's the "Is Gwyneth Paltrow Wrong about Everything?" guy).

I just signed up for a “50 books in 50 weeks” challenge with a local library. They have 50 categories & the goal is to read one book from each category by December 20th. Should be interesting.

I started reading Jennifer Weiner's Big Summer - I was intrigued by the introduction but she lost me after 4 chapters of the same character she's written over and over and over again.

On audio, I'm making my way through Ali Smith's Seasonal Quartet. I don't love them, but I can't stop until I finish them! I'm taking a quick break to listen to the Julia Quinn Bridgerton book. The first one, I forget the name. In book books, I just finished Elin Hilderbrand's 28 Summers and am about halfway through Hilary Mantel's 3rd book in her Cromwell trilogy (The Mirror and the Light). I'm taking my time b/c I know how it ends

My next door neighbor started a book club for the women in our neighborhood. We have only met by Zoom so far but I am enjoying it. We meet once a month and are currently reading Flight Behavior by Barbara Kingsolver.

I'm halfway through On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong. It's an elegiac prose poem, lovely and sad.

I have two going right now, which is unusual for me. I'm typically a one book at a time girl.
Anxious People by Fredrick Backman and Winter in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand.

I'm reading a biography of George Carlin. It's a nice interesting read. I just finished 2 books on my Kobo that I had read before, but had absolutely no memory of, until I was halfway through. That sucks. I know I read fast sometimes, but to not actually RETAIN any of it until halfway through is a problem!

Finished On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous and read the first story from Stephen King's If It Bleeds, which was a nice old fashioned and extremely moderate ghost story.

If It Bleeds is one of the books dh got me for Christmas. I haven't started it yet. I have been so bad with time management lately and am too exhausted to read by the time I go to bed.

I enjoyed Winter in Paradise too. It's nice to read something light and fun! Anxious People was really good! Backman always has lines in his books that hit me right in the feels.
