So should we be freaking out or no? Well, I’m not a healthcare professional, but I would say no, we don’t need to freak out. As long as we practice good hygiene, thorough handwashing, touching public surfaces as little as possible etc., we should be all right. I mean, all of those measures are good practice anyway.

I think I will freak out when there is a reported case at my work or my son’s school since it seems like it spreads rather easily.

Business as usual here at Disney World! Crowds are insane, more so than I have ever seen in past years, and from all over the world! Pretty much I am washing my hands, and using sanitizer like a mad woman, but that's always been my thing at Disney anyway.

I work in an elementary school full of families who travel a lot. Dh works in a hospital. If it comes to our area we have a high chance of being exposed. Since the pandemic response team was gutted to save money for gold trips and spare yachts, the response by those in the administration seems to be denial. I don't think denial is going to fend off this virus.

I’m always pretty cautious touching public stuff so not much has changed. Although, to emphasize my point with my family, I’ve started calling my hands “virus hands.”
“Hey, mom, I want to show you something.” Just walking into the house, “Sure, just let me wash my virus hands.” 🤪

My immune system is pretty strong after working in an elementary school all these years. I live in the middle of nowhere, but since we have a military base here, there is a lot of international travel going on around me. So I do worry *some*, but ore about my kids and my husband than myself.

From everything I’ve read and everything I understand about virology and immunology this Coronavirus isn’”the walking dead”. The vast majority of those who contract this virus have cold/flu symptoms and survive. People with health issues, elderly, etc need to be concerned in the same way they are concerned during flu season. This virus is not the Black Death of Europe, this is a virus that hits the elderly and compromised exceptionally hard... just like every other respiratory virus.
The avian flu had a much higher mortality rate (60%) but it was a “nicer” virus In terms of transmission because it killed very quickly. Infected people didn’t have time to spread it before they died. The Coronavirus stays a symptomatic for 2 weeks so infected people are out and about. This virus is highly transmissible but not particularly deadly.

This virus is highly transmissible but not particularly deadly. It may not be as deadly as the seasonal flu, but it's got a high mortality rate compared to it. Seems to be on par with the death rate from the Spanish flu of 1918, which killed a lot of people. Granted, we now have better medical care, but still frightening. Besides getting a whole lot of people sick, it will cause severe economic impacts. We are starting to see that already with the stock market and goods from China.

I have upped my daughter's hand washing routine, I forgot to mention. Between school and the bus...yuck! There's a bright sticky on the kitchen cabinet that says "Wash hands after school" so her dad sees it and reminds her (a glass of juice is routine as soon as she comes in the door). She's now to where she remembers on her own and doesn't need the prompt. Still a good reminder for her dad though.

Now that word has gotten out that reporting to a hospital with a possible case will cost thousands of dollars even if you only have a common cold, the stage has been set for this to be a fiasco in the US. My family can't afford to pay those co-pays and I am pretty sure we aren't the only ones.

I have never been one to hand sanitize or Lysol wipe every 5 seconds, I don't "do" flu shots and, knock wood, I rarely get sick. When I do it's more allergy/sinus related, not anything contagious.
I don't know that I'd book a cruise now because it's so self contained. You can't necessarily get away from the sick. But otherwise? I'll just do my usual and hope for the best.

My ds is going to Paris for spring break 3/6 He has type 1 diabetes, so I’m even more worried about him getting sick or stuck in quarantine. Hoping this all going to blow over.
With Pence in charge, what could possibly go wrong? 🤷🏼♀️🙄

I'm sure the people of Singapore would back this up. But really, they will probably have a much better handle on things by then.

I don’t use hand sanitizer (except at work) or wipe surfaces constantly. I used to have a very strong immune system & seldom got sick in spite of what I was exposed to. Since I’ve been diagnosed with lymphoma, my immunity has taken a bit of a hit. I had 2 respiratory illness since just before Christmas. The first one became a lung infection needing strong antibiotics. The second one hasn’t been as bad but I’m still getting over it.
I’m hoping I don’t catch this as I’m not sure how well I would shake it. My WBC (especially lymphs) are pretty low right now.

We are already planning here at work today, since we can work from home. I figure once a case pops up at school they will close school for a while, it’s happening in other countries already. My wife can’t work from home but she has a crapload of vacation/sick time.

My kids are going on school trips in four weeks time, one to Greece and one to Spain, and there is also a trip to France that week. The school is going to wait until the last possible moment to decide whether or not to go ahead, just because everything is still developing. I am not chaperoning any of the trips, which I am very happy about! Can you imagine if one of the places ends up being quarantined, and the chaperones are stuck there for weeks with 40+ middle schoolers? No thanks. Oh, also we were told we have to bring our laptops home every day in case the school needs to close and we have to teach from home. I can’t really teach any of my classes from home and a lot of my job is hands-on, so I’m not sure what I would do in that case.

I'm remaining calm about my upcoming travel this year. I'm healthy and I am a diligent hand-washer.
