Well, we can all rest easy now. The orange fisco has declared the coronavirus is actually just a hoax by the democrats to make him look bad. Now that we know it is just a hoax, I'll sleep much better tonight. January 2021 will not come soon enough. Lord help us all. The lunatic has way too long left to screw up the world. I only hope it's over in January 2021.

I can't keep my students 3 INCHES away from one another, much less 3 feet.
! My district is 1 to 1 for Ipads for all students Kindergarten and up. However, only the 7-12th graders bring Ipads home. ( I think!, it might include our 5th and 6th graders now). For our students with internet access, and the Ipad, it wouldn't be difficult at all to deliver some instruction. It would be harder for our younger students. We are about to enter "testing season", and to be honest, most of the actual instruction for the year is winding down, in favor of test prep for some of our students. It really is sad, but it is the way it is.

France has banned all public gatherings of 5,000 or more Honestly, is that going to do much good? So gatherings of 500 are less likely to make the virus spread? Sounds silly.

Well they can't feasibly ban gatherings of 2 people or more. The larger the crowd, the more likely that someone in the crowd has the virus and the more people they can spread it to.
Certainly it's not a perfect measure, and one can argue whether it's necessary, but I think there's some sense in it.

We were at Walmart tonight, regular shopping to load the big truck for my husbands week or so of groceries. It's the first of the month so always kind of crowded at this time anyway, so hard to say, but things like pasta and toilet paper and cereal and spaghettios were pretty wiped out. First row in the place is now wet wipes and Clorox..No Purell to be found. I feel bad for the pharmacy department, the woman ahead of us was being very rude to the tech, she was demanding an extra refill for her meds "in case of quarantine" "What do you mean my insurance won't pay?!" " I want all my meds NOW!!" That is the stuff that is worrisome, all the panic spilling over.

Well, if one infected person can easily infect multiple other people, then yes it would be significantly worse if 10x more people were exposed in one gathering, because it will spread exponentially from there. I am watching the British government statement now and they are saying that things like limiting mass gatherings, closing schools, asking people to work from home, etc doesn’t mean it won’t spread at all but it will slow it down and “flatten the peak”, which makes it easier for the hospitals to deal with (if it comes to that).

Nodding along. For the US, we have an over-65 population of about 50 million. If 14% of them get very ill, that’s about 7 million. We have about 95,000 ICU beds in the US. The more we can stagger transmission, the better.

Also the longer the spread can be delayed/limited, the further away we will be from flu season and other winter illnesses, which also eases the burden on hospitals. And increases time for research.
