Police in Minneapolis are firing rubber bullets at clearly identified press The police should be firing real bullets at clearly identified rioters. So what you're saying is that police should be taking people's lives, instead of using less lethal methods of stopping the criminal activity, and without waiting for trials and sentencing. You know, I think if police did that with any regularity, people would protest. OH WAIT. Also, in response to your use of Romans 13: I am also a pro-life Christian, part of a conservative denomination. And I completely disagree with your application of that passage. Your interpretation could be used to justify the idea that an officer should shoot someone for running a stop sign, for crying out loud. Further, the fact that Scripture says the state has the authority to bear the sword does NOT mean that as an individual, you should wish the state would bear it more. Why on earth would your desire be for these rioters to be killed rather than for their lives to be spared if at all possible, so that they would have opportunity to repent?

This is what it looks like when the business you’ve spent your whole life building gets looted and burned. The dentist is a very nice Muslim man. A racial minority. His insurance told him his coverage didn’t include “pandemics” when he got shut down. It told him yesterday that it also doesn’t over “riots”. 🤷♀️

I don't know if the US is broken beyond repair, but it's in a downward spiral. The twin cultures of violence and racism are just so long and deeply entrenched, between mass shootings every few days and riots every couple of years. Some of the police departments absolutely need a revolution from within and that never seems to happen despite the same shit played out again and again. As long a rage-fuelled violence remains part of the urban American landscape, I don't know how anyone fixes this. But the alternative to not fixing it is unthinkable.

Absolutely appalling. My heart aches for him and so many others who are losing so much.
I am all for protesting. Unfortunately, vandalism and violence are the cancerous offshoot of many protests in these troubled times.

You know I think we’ve become desensitized to stories of police brutality. It’s outrage on social media, the virtue signaling stops for a bit until the next one and the cycle continues. It’s happens so often I mix the stories up and people who are tired of hearing about it started with the “All Lives Matter” responses. The ALM stuff is an attempt to get people to shut up primarily.
The BLM stuff didn’t really accomplish much, people did some half ass stuff on social media but it also stirred up a crap load of racism from white people. People who bend and twist their thinking to find some way out for the accused police officers. If you see somebody post statistics they are often doing it as an attempt to make it appear there isn’t a problem. Statistics can be used to make the Holocaust not look that bad when you compare it to the entire population of the planet during that period.
Now? While in the past I was vocally against the destructive behavior but something about this one has more people concerned. Before if it was contained to “certain areas” people would roll their eyes and continue on their way.
We’ve had a ton of mass shootings in the past and people pretty much brush it off because they reassure themselves that statistically they are safe.
The stuff going on now? I think even with the macho “I got my guns I will defend my family” types are secretly just as afraid as everybody else. They are afraid this stuff will come to their neighborhood. They are not protected by statistical probabilities anymore because the statistics are shifting and not in their favor.
It’s like a mass shooting involving millions of people who just decided one day to spend a week shooting people as a collective effort to send a message. The hopes and prayers never worked so people decided to use reverse psychology and use the destructive collective force of a nation wide mob to send a message all at once. The mob is moving as it has already destroyed one area and now the mob is looking for another target.

Also Trump has had two opportunities to unite a nation during a crisis and he has made no attempt to do anything except cry about himself because he’s worried about November.....

I think the quieter Trump is, the better. I mean, he started off the weekend by re-tweeting a video that started "The only good Democrat is a dead Democrat".
GOF, that is horrifying. Insurance companies are such assholes, also.
Disruptors of all kinds are corrupting the message the peaceful protests are trying to deliver.

What does your first sentence have to do with the second? Police should shoot rioters because sometimes they are attacked themselves? The people protesting are the same as the rioters and shouldn’t be protesting because police are sometimes attacked? Or what?

Again. Police officers shooting rioters in the street is going to do NOTHING to stop the current events, and will in fact escalate the violence.
I have seen people on facebook actively calling for murder of police officers, saying that they won't understand until it is leveled against them. I will be honest, that absolutely terrifies me. My husband was eligible for retirement in February. I have asked him to consider putting in his paperwork, but he doesn't want to do that just yet. I do understand, he is a man who is a good person, who became a cop for the right reasons, and has proven that over the last 20 years with how he conducts himself professionally, and how he has interacted with his community. In those 20 years, he has had a handful of complaints against him, most of them being people who went to the chief because they thought their last name should get them out of a ticket. We are in a smaller town, most shifts have less than 7 officers working at a time, and bad behavior is handled better here than in larger cities, in my opinion, because everything is so much more visible.

It's a scary time for so many people.
Our police officers and firefighters have all been instructed to dress business casual. Every PD has good and bad, but the problem is that thin blue line. I remember watching cop shows as a kid and being horrified that good officers would fight to protect the bad ones from ever being held accountable. I get it, they have a brotherhood and it's a job that isn't like other jobs, it's dangerous and they have to have each others' backs....BUT - if they protect officers who are up to no good it makes them all look bad. It actually makes them bad, because they aren't willing to root out the bad actors our of solidarity. And in the midst of a tense protest, it just takes one spark from either side the light it up.
And then we have black people, with the historic weight of oppression and fairly regular reminders that law enforcement can kill them with no consequences, no matter how guilty or innocent they are.
