I agree safe is relative.
In my mind the goal is to be as safe as possible (by following some simple guidelines : avoid large gatherings, mask up & good hygiene. )
The ones refusing to do the bare minimum are the ones I'm reserving my scorn for. No one is changing my mind on that! lol

I have no interest in changing your mind. I think we all agree it is foolish to put 100 maskless people in a small building.
I am more interested in navigating the nuance.

My wife’s work is getting taken out slowly due to Covid now. Two coworkers were home last week because they are sick and tested positive. A third coworker who sits right next to my wife just sent a group text that she tested positive, she’s in bed can’t get out and lost her sense of taste now.
Her employer is doing the contact tracing notification action now. We were on vacation the previous week so she dodged the quarantine requirement. In payroll they deal with a lot of people complaining about deductions for things like child support.

We are now at a 3% transmission rate in CT. Every time we enter a new phase, we end up walking it back because humans are gonna human.

The county where I teach has a burden of about 1500 cases/100,000 residents over the past two weeks. 350/100,000 is considered high risk.
For some reason we are still in school. I have no idea why. There didn't actually seem to be a threshold at which the levels are too high. What might do us in is things like 4 of our middle school teachers riding together to go out for lunch...right before one of them tested positive. All 4 are now quarantined. When the entire middle school is a dozen teachers, that's significant.

Same here. To be fair, as a teacher, I am not wanting to go to virtual, because it not the way I want to teach kindergarten. We were doing a "shake and spill" activity today, to decompose numbers to 10. Each kiddo got their own cup of 10 double sided counters to do the activity with. It is things like that where I wonder how on earth to teach that lesson virtually. I am sure there are online manipulatives I can use, but I don't want to, lol.
From the parent side, I also don't want to go virtual. My son is a junior. He was recently quarantined for 2 weeks due to an exposure on the football team. 2 weeks he was home alone, trying to do chemistry and geometry virtually, including taking exams. His grades dipped. He needs the in person teaching.
So, while I don't want to go virtual, I also don't understand why we haven't. Our numbers are rising daily.

Same. I don't want to go virtual but can't figure out why we haven't or what will make us actually go virtual since all previous lines have been passed.

They should be shamed 🤷♀️ We have a relative that was sharing selfies taken with somebody else up close and no mask. Somebody cancelled a trip with them because in other pictures they were not wearing masks as well and she has an immune deficiency issue. The relatives response was “oh I know her it’s not a big deal”..... Reminds me of people and STDs, oh I know her/him I don’t need to worry

Our elementary and junior high (middle school) are open completely M-F. High school is divided, half the students 2 days, the other half 2 days and they alternate Fridays. You can also opt to do full virtual/remote school, which is what we chose for Mikey, he is in 10th grade. There have been 156 positive cases for students and teachers since in person school started on October 13th but no mention of closing. It's just business as usual.

Maybe not by those names, but I’m pretty sure they have their own right-wing and left-wing political parties...in fact, several European countries are seeing a resurgence of right-wing authoritarianism.

Is everything political now? Apparently. But It's okay to be a jerk about it as long as no one's house is burning down.🤷♀️

Also, name calling is really the lowest form of debate...

Is everything political now? No. That’s the point of this (I felt obviously) sarcastic post.

I got the word wrong though--because I hate typing the word from that thread almost as much as I hate saying it. In the other thread, it was stated it is okay to be an asshole, just not about politics to someone whose house is burning down.
