Let's Go! I hope this is the beginning of the end for this nightmare. We've seen a record number of voters. I'm cautiously optimistic

I think Biden will win but god knows what Trump is going to do if/when that happens.

oh God oh God oh God
I'm more hopeful about Trump losing than I was in 2016, but it also feels like the stakes are so, so much higher this time. I'm trying to prepare myself not to know for days or weeks. And I'm scared--truly frightened--about the aftermath, regardless of who wins. If Trump wins (and especially if he wins via the courts, via mysterious "recounts", etc.) I think people will take to the streets and it won't say civil (in part due to instigators in the crowd). If he loses, I think militias and bigots and bullys sad that their day in the sun may be over will have an extinction burst, which could last quite a while.
And I worry that Trump will basically try to burn the place down around him for the next few months if he loses. Congress can only protect from so much (and that's if either the Rs jump ship because he's now a loser and actually stand up to him even if it's just for appearances sake, or if the Ds win back the Senate).
So... happy Tuesday, I guess?

I will be an election worker from 1 pm to close. My parents will stop over and do evening chores, bless them. I think it willl be nice to be doing something rather than watch the news.

My thoughts are definitely with you all down there today. I feel so bad for all the moderate Americans, I can't imagine what you're going through. And I'm really glad I don't have cable! Dh and I agreed a couple of months ago to go US News-lite, and it's been good for our mental health. Headlines and memes are about the extent I want to know, it's so messed up.
Of course, this had to happen in the middle of my quarantine, and I'm going a bit squirrely. We're having a return to fall after a couple of weeks of winter, and it is glorious out there. Argh. I may cheat and go for a bike ride later. I'll avoid the multi-use paths with all the pedestrians, and stick to the road so I can keep my distance.

I voted this morning before work. There were more people than I've ever seen but it still only took about 20 minutes, very few people were wearing masks but I did notice they wiped down the voting booths between people and you had to put your pen in a tub when you were leaving so that's good. I know my presidential vote won't mean anything since I'm in Oklahoma but it felt good to vote anyway. I am curious how the state and local elections will turn out and if the democrats can win any of the seats.

I know I said this morning that I thought Biden would win but now I am getting anxious that Trump might win again. What a nightmare that would be.

I'm not even American, and it feels like waiting for a bomb to drop. I hope the losing side doesn't go completely ape shit and destroy people's homes and livelihoods, or worse, but that's pretty tall order these days.

I am honestly worried about outbreaks of violence from the white supremacist boot licking crowd.

My poor dd2 is beside herself with anxiety. She took our “we believe “ sign out of the yard and wants to park her car in the garage. We have a 3 car garage, but she usually parks outside. I’m having a relaxing spa day, since I know tonight’s going to be a long night.

I had nightmares all night about riots... I have colleagues with offices downtown that boarded up and closed today. I hope that everyone can peacefully accept the results, but I don’t see that happening really. I’m glad I no longer live in town.
I’m not watching any coverage until a winner is announced. I’d rather avoid the drama.

I've done pretty well most of the day but am getting anxious now. I have another work call at 2:00 and then I KNOW I'll be glued to the news. I just can't help it. I'm really feeling like Biden can win but 2016 really burned us. As for violence, I may be naive but I'm not too worried about that. I feel, sadly, like we went through so much in May/June that it just can't/won't happen again. I worry about it for other locations, though.

I normally have the news on while I’m getting ready for work. This morning, I listened to music. I’ve been listening to an audiobook most of the day, and dh and I are going to watch a movie tonight. Even avoiding the news has me going crazy. I’m going to need a xanax tonight. 🙁

I’m having a relaxing spa day, since I know tonight’s going to be a long night. We only have street parking and I'm very concerned about that. We are so close to the district and it would be very, very easy for things to spill over to our area, and we aren't the burbs so it's the kind of area where stuff could easily happen. I'm furious that DH can't WFH tomorrow. it means our car will be safe (while he has it at work), but it also means I can't GTFO if the shit hits the fan. I have friends whose houses are much further out, but no way to get there. I bought a bar that tucks under the doorknob to create a wedge, for the front door, but our door--like our house--is such a POS that a gentle kick would cause it to basically disintegrate. I don't feel good. No matter who wins, I'm scared. On several levels, scared.

Its been crazy all day. Record numbers and some infuriating slip ups, of wrong ballots in wrong districts in neighboring towns and running out of ballots in ours causing a 1/2 hour back up so ballots could be printed, all before noon time!
I have already removed all my political signs as of yesterday. The local Republicans already know who I am though, so that was mostly to keep garbage or whatever thrown at my yard.
