My Dd paid about $5500 a year for her degree. Lived at home for free, worked almost full time, paid for most of it herself, and finished without any student loans. We have two universities here that were an option for her - she picked the one that was a 10 minute bus ride from home (and the bus pass was included in the school fees). We couldn’t have afforded to pay for her to go away, so she would have had to take on mass debt to do that. She really didn’t care where she went, so it worked out great. That's almost exactly what happened with our DD except instead of a 10 minute bus ride it was a 30 minute ride. I'm so glad they put a university in Oshawa. She did the first year in residence at U of T and it took all of the RESP money we had put away. She switched to a different school after the first semester and it was a much better fit. Plus being able to work while she went to school was a huge bonus.
