I started Million Dollar American Princesses, about the women who supposedly inspired Downton Abbey. I'm only one episode in and the July is still out. They featured the woman who would go on to become Winston Churchill's mother, and the woman who was Princess Di's great grandmother, both of whom were the daughters of wealthy American families seeking social acceptance in exchange for their money.
I was familiar with the concept of wealthy American girls going to England to add a title to the family, most of whom were New Money and therefore not accepted in the highest circles of US society. Adding a title to the family seemed one of the only ways to change that. But it is interesting to learn more details. Princess Di's great grandfather did not support the marriage (and for good reason) and when he died his will forbade his children and grandchildren from ever even visiting Europe. And now his direct descendants are in line for the thrown!

And now his direct descendants are in line for the thrown! I’ve watched a few episodes of this. It’s good, but what I’ve seen of Season 2 feels more like “poor little rich girls” as they don’t solely focus on ones who marry for titles. It’s still interesting, though.

Watched the first four episodes of Brave New World and not sure if or when I will finish it. I’m just so over the depressing dystopia stuff now a days.

My son and I just started the new Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix. He was just as interested in hearing about the original Unsolved Mysteries (and America’s Most Wanted) as in watching the show.

I used to love watching Unsolved Mysteries. I started getting scared just from the theme music and whatshisname's voice. It's was so fun!

On the first episode my son said, “THIS IS THE BEST THEME MUSIC I HAVE EVER HEARD”, and then refused to let me ever skip the intro.

We just checked, we have it here. We'll start tomorrow. Saturday and Sunday are the worst days for our regular channels here.

If you mean Unsolved Mysteries, I am in the UK too, so if I have it, you have it. We got rid of cable a few years ago and only watch BBC I-Player, Netflix, and Amazon. I wouldn’t mind having ITV back, but overall I don’t miss much!

I went home for lunch today and started watching Indian Matchmaker. Has potential to be entertaining, but the casual racism/classism is offputting.

I went home for lunch today and started watching Indian Matchmaker. Has potential to be entertaining, but the casual racism/classism is offputting. I read a glowing review of this show last week. But given my personal experiences knowing people of Indian descent, and my dd's closeness as a kid with her bff's immigrant family, I know I would find the show NMS. If it isn't totally sexist as well, I'd be shocked.

It is a mix in terms of sexist - less so in the U.S., but pretty heavily steeped in "wife serves husband" in India. The most charming part of it are the "When Harry Met Sally" parts - where they interview couples who had arranged marriages and have been married for a long time. Some of them are very cute.
Doug put on Cursed last night - pretty good!

Watching a 2-part documentary on BBC called I Can Go For That: The Smooth World of Yacht Rock. It’s great, and a bonus is that I now know my husband does an impeccable and hilarious impression of Michael McDonald.
